Helsinki Photo Festival 2023 - COURAGE

Held for the sixth time, the Helsinki Photo Festival brings photographic art to the street scene and now for the second time to Helsinginkatu in the vicinity of the Ebeneser house. The theme of the 2023 festival is Courage.

The exhibition by the Helsinki Photo Festival on the street side of the fence of the Ebeneser house has been curated with the children's audience in mind. The exhibition can be reached around the clock from August 4 to September 17, 2023.

Helsinki Photo Festival is a visual art event dedicated to the art of photography, bringing the form of photo art closer to the public. Since 2018, the festival has brought together photography enthusiasts from different backgrounds and age groups. The festival has built an exceptional program consisting of exhibitions, pop-up events and pedagogical events. The goal of the Helsinki Photo Festival is to introduce, educate and inspire the public to the art of photography.

Every year Helsinki Photo Festival selects 50 winners through an open call from various genres around the world. The competition is judged by leading international photography and education experts. In 2023, the festival received 462 applications with a total of 6,555 images from 67 different countries. The works of the 50 international open call winners chosen from them will be presented for 12 weeks in the Helsinki area.

The sixth festival will be organized in 2023 in two parts. In the first part, 24/7 accessible exhibitions open in the outdoor spaces from August to September. The fence of the Ebeneser house functions as one outdoor exhibition space. In the second part of the festival in September-October, pedagogical events and exhibitions are organized indoors. The Kindergarten Museum collaborated with the Helsinki Photo Festival for the first time in 2021. In that year, pedagogical material for visiting the photo exhibition and working on it was also implemented. The material is aimed primarily at professionals working with groups of children. The material can also be easily used by families, a single person or, regardless of age, different groups and entities familiar with the art of photography.
